Software for 2D ISO, Double Line, or 3D Pipe Drawings

Our pipe drawing software offers three approaches to input: ISO, Double Line, and 3D piping.

Mech-Q provides the tools to create ISO, Double Line, and 3D piping drawings, allowing users to choose what works for them best.

Both ISO piping and 2D/3D piping have their advantages and disadvantages. ISO piping is easier to learn and use, making it suitable for beginners who want to draw the schematic in a flat plan view.

Mech-Q 2D ISO Software

2D ISO piping is commonly used for field sketches, weld mapping, or when scaling is not a concern.

It’s a simple and easy-to-use 2D representation of the pipe route. The ISO drawing can focus on the layout, fittings, or weld location. This quick and rough visualization option is comparable to a napkin sketch.

On the other hand, 3D piping provides a detailed and accurate representation of the project. A 3D model will accurately depict all the pipe sizes and how they connect to other components.

It is also helpful for field sketches or initial planning stages where detailed measurements are not required. However, Mech-Q’s isometric pipe module will allow you to input not-to-scale controlled dimensions if required. Generally, though, 2D ISO is not used to calculate unknown dimensions.

Mech-Q 3D Pipe Software

3D piping is ideal when precise measurements and clearances need to be checked and dimensioned. It offers a realistic and to-scale representation of the piping system, making it easier to identify clashes or obstructions.

Drawing a 3D pipe makes it easier to visualize and understand the pipe route and dimensions. With complex piping systems, you may have multiple pipes that intersect or overlap.

With 3D pipe drawings, you can identify any clashes or interferences with other components or structures in the system before construction begins.

3D piping offers a more accurate and realistic approach, making it ideal for fabrication and providing drawings for pipe installation. With a 3D drawing, you can minimize errors and ensure the pipe fits properly within the intended space.

Sometimes, a 3D Piping drawing can be referred to as an Isometric view of a layout, which is why many may mix the distinction between the two piping input types. While working in a 3D view, you have three axes: X, Y, and Z.

Mech-Q 2D Double Line Software

If a 2D, double-line flat schematic is required, you can also easily input a flat representation accurately with Mech-Q.

The dialog works very similarly to 3D, and the input is very similar. The primary difference is that you are working in a 2D Orthogonal view. The UCS (User Coordinate System) is X and Y, and no Z heights are used.
